Mr. Salata oversees all investment and divestment decisions made at the Firm, as well as its strategic direction. Mr. Salata has been responsible for the investment activity of the Firm since 1997 when he started the regional Asian private equity investment program for UK-based Baring Private Equity Partners Ltd. Mr. Salata later led the management buyout of this program in 2000 to establish BPEA as an independent Firm. Before that, Mr. Salata was a Director of Hong Kong based AIG Global Investment Corporation (Asia) Ltd., the Asian private equity investment arm of AIG. Before that, he was the Executive Vice President of Finance of Shiu Wing Steel, a Hong Kong based industrial concern, and prior to that a management consultant with Bain & Company based in Hong Kong, Sydney and Boston.
Mr. Salata has lived and worked in Hong Kong since 1989, and graduated magna cum laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Finance and Economics.
Mr. Chen joined BPEA in 2002. Since joining the Firm, Mr. Chen has been involved in various investment opportunities and post-investment initiatives in China, Taiwan, and South Korea. Mr. Chen was previously an Assistant Director with Prudential Asset Management Asia and spent considerable time overseeing the firm’s South Korea portfolio. Before that, Mr. Chen spent over ten years with Bank of America’s project finance, PRC corporate banking, credit risk management and financial institutions groups in San Francisco and Hong Kong, where he executed a wide range of advisory and debt transactions.
Mr. Chen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Chen was born in Taiwan and is fluent in English and Mandarin.
Mr. Cheong joined BPEA in 1998. Mr. Cheong is involved in the Firm’s investments in Southeast Asia. Mr. Cheong has also been involved with the Firm’s investments in China, Korea, U.S. and India. Mr. Cheong was previously a Manager with BZW Asia for three years, where he was involved in corporate finance and M&A in the Region. Prior to that, Mr. Cheong spent three years with DBS Bank, where he was involved in credit, marketing and loan syndications.
Mr. Cheong graduated with First Class Honors in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics from the London School of Economics. He was born in Malaysia and is fluent in English and conversational in Mandarin.
Mr. Flanz began working with BPEA in 2003. Previously, Mr. Flanz was the Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Enterprises Limited, a large Hong Kong based family investment office. Mr. Flanz began his career with Chase Manhattan Bank N. A., where he served as Country Manager for Japan, Area Director for the Middle East and North Africa, and was later appointed Area Director, responsible for all of Chase’s activities in Asia Pacific. Mr. Flanz was a founding partner of the private equity firm, Prudential Asia Investments Limited, and subsequently was a member of the Management Committee of London-based private equity firm, Investcorp International Limited. He then served as Chairman and CEO of Gucci Group, N.V., prior to returning to Hong Kong from Italy in 1996, following Gucci’s turnaround and successful IPO. He also served as Chairman of the Investment Advisory Committee for the pension fund of Supervalu, the large Minneapolis based supermarket group from 2005 through 2013. Mr. Flanz serves as Senior Advisor and Chairman of the Investment Committee of Fung Investment Management Ltd, responsible for managing the private assets of a leading Hong Kong family. He is a Trustee and Member of the Executive Council of the World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong.
Mr. Flanz graduated from New York University with a B.A. in Economics and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Hennessy joined BPEA in 2001. Mr. Hennessy has extensive experience in the education, retail, consumer products and manufacturing sectors. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Hennessy was a General Partner with Allen & Buckeridge, a leading Australian private equity firm. He began his career as a senior consultant with Accenture in Asia and the U.S.
Mr. Hennessy received an M.B.A. from INSEAD and a Bachelor’s degree in both Engineering (with Honors) and Science from Monash University in Australia. He was born in Australia.
Mr. Kalliarekos has advised BPEA since 2004 and fully joined in 2008. Mr. Kalliarekos chairs the fund’s Portfolio Management Committee and he is a member of the Exits & Liquidity Committee. He co-heads our Education investment activities and is a senior member of the India investment team. Mr. Kalliarekos leads the firms human capital activities, which include recruiting, performance review and non-partner compensation activities. Prior to BPEA, Mr. Kalliarekos was a founding member and Senior Partner of The Parthenon Group/EY, an advisory firm headquartered in Boston, USA. Mr. Kalliarekos serves on several boards of BPEA’s portfolio companies, including Nord Anglia Education, Hexaware Technologies and Prometric. Mr. Kalliarekos also serves on the boards of the Hong Kong International School and the American College of Greece.
Mr. Kalliarekos holds a BSc from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School (Baker Scholar).
Mr. Shaw joined BPEA in 1998. Mr. Shaw is responsible for the Firm’s investments in Greater China. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Shaw was a Director of AIG Global Investment Corporation (Asia) Ltd. in Hong Kong, where he worked with Mr. Salata. He was also the Head of Equity Investment Department at Nan Shan Life Insurance (an AIG subsidiary in Taiwan at the time). Before that, he worked in Citibank’s Asian Private Equity and Corporate Finance departments. Prior to his career in finance, Mr. Shaw was a Senior Design Engineer at Schlumberger Technologies in San Jose, California.
Mr. Shaw earned an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was born in Taiwan and is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Taiwanese.
Mr. Addison joined BPEA in 2011. Mr. Addison is responsible for fund raising and other investor-related matters. Prior to joining BPEA, Mr. Addison was a Director at UBS Investment Bank where he worked as a member of the Private Funds Team based in London and then Singapore. Prior to this Mr. Addison was a lawyer with King & Wood Mallesons (formerly known as Mallesons Stephen Jaques) where he worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions department based in Melbourne.
Mr. Addison holds a Bachelor’s degree in both Commerce (Economics) (with Honours) and in Laws (with Honours) from the University of Melbourne.
Mr. Adukia has 22 years of experience across wholesale lending, retail lending and institutional brokerage with specialized knowledge of Indian capital markets in the Indian markets. Prior to joining BPEA, Mr. Adukia was responsible for raising and managing the fund of Religare Credit Advisors Limited (RCAL) a domestic fund investing in Structured Private Debt in India and as head of the Capital Market business at Religare Finvest Limited, managing all aspects of wholesale and retail lending for capital markets. Prior to this, Mr. Adukia was working with Citigroup as Head, Capital Market Finance and with HDFC Bank. Mr. Adukia has also worked in Collections while with India Securities Ltd in addition to his work in Capital Markets business.
Mr. Adukia holds an MBA from Mumbai University.
Mr. Agrawal joined BPEA in 2008. Mr. Agrawal focuses on the Firm’s investment activities in India. Prior to joining BPEA, Mr. Agrawal was a Senior Vice President with Lehman Brothers’ private equity group in Mumbai where he was responsible for deal origination, execution, and monitoring of private equity investments. Prior to that, he was with Bank of America’s private equity group in Mumbai and subsequently Chicago; Mr. Agrawal also worked with JM Morgan Stanley’s corporate finance group and as an equity research analyst with ICICI Securities.
Mr. Agrawal received Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad and Bachelor of Engineering degree from SGS Institute of Technology & Science. He has also received the CFA Charter.
Mr. Albolote joined BPEA in 2006. Mr. Albolote has extensive experience in private equity and investment banking in Asia, and in Japan in particular. From 2001 to 2005, Mr. Albolote worked as a Vice President and founding team member of Carlyle Japan LLC/Carlyle Japan Partners. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Albolote worked with Goldman Sachs & Co. in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for executing privatizations and equity offerings for Asian corporations/governments. Prior to Goldman Sachs, he worked in the M&A group of Wasserstein Perella & Co. in New York and Tokyo, and represented the firm’s interest in their Japan JV with Nomura. Mr. Albolote also worked for The Asian Development Bank, where he focused on direct equity investments, primarily in China.
Mr. Albolote received an A.B. in Economics from Columbia University and holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Mr. Albolote is fluent in English and speaks Japanese.
Mr. Cordes joined BPEA in 2006. Mr. Cordes is responsible for overseeing the finance, tax, portfolio monitoring, legal, compliance, IT and office operations functions and jointly oversees the firm’s human capital function. Mr. Cordes is also responsible for overseeing BPEA’s philanthropic activities and serves on the Board of Social Impact Partners. Prior to BPEA, Mr. Cordes worked at Deloitte in New York and Hong Kong, serving a wide range of clients, including private equity firms, Japanese trading companies, global financial institutions and non-financial US registrants based in Asia.
Mr. Cordes is a Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and graduated from Lehigh University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Economics.
Mr. Cui joined BPEA in 2012. Mr. Cui is involved primarily in the Firm’s investments in Greater China. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Cui was Partner of Hopu Investment Management Co. Ltd. Before that, he was Managing Director of Morgan Stanley China Investment Banking and led HSBC’s Resources and Energy Group in Asia Pacific.
Mr. Cui received Bachelor and Master degrees in Engineering from University of Science & Technology Beijing, China, and D.Phil. in Engineering Science from University of Oxford. Mr. Cui is a native Mandarin speaker and is fluent in English.
Mr. Fogle joined BPEA in 2011 to spearhead the Firm’s move into the real estate sector. From 2006 to 2010, Mr. Fogle served as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer in Asia at RREEF, the alternative investment and asset management arm of Deutsche Bank, where he was responsible for overseeing real estate investments in the Region. As CIO and a research-focused investor, Mr. Fogle was instrumental in the disposition of a large portion of RREEF’s real estate exposure in Asia, while at the same time tightening the firm’s investment process and underwriting criteria as the Asian real estate markets became overheated in 2007 and 2008. As such, RREEF was one of the more successful investors in Asia during the period of Mr. Fogle’s tenure as CIO. From 1997 to 2006, Mr. Fogle was a Managing Director at AIG Global Real Estate, where he grew the Asian business from a small lending operation into one of the largest real estate debt and equity players in Asia, investing capital on behalf of AIG’s clients through managed funds as well as placing proprietary funds of AIG’s affiliates into core, value-add and high-yield/opportunistic assets. During his tenure at AIG, which spanned multiple Asian economic cycles, Mr. Fogle initiated AIG’s program to invest in distressed debt and underperforming assets as well as structuring joint ventures with Asian property companies to acquire and develop undervalued sites. Prior to joining AIG, from 1992 to 1997, Mr. Fogle was responsible for the Asian expansion of a U.S. development and investment firm. Mr. Fogle first began working in Asia in 1989 when he assisted his former company, USAA Real Estate, in the structuring of a Japan-based private real estate investment trust, which owned U.S. properties. During his 25-year career in the Asia Pacific region, Mr. Fogle has been involved in over 90 debt and equity investments with a transaction value exceeding US$22 billion.
Mr. Fogle is a member of the Urban Land Institute and was a founding Board member of the Asian Association for Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles (ANREV).
Mr. Gately joined BPEA in 2019 as Managing Director and Head of Asset Management for BPEA Real Estate. Mr. Gately has over 30 years’ of real estate investment and asset management experience. He joined BPEA from Fudo, the real estate investment fund of CLSA Capital Partners, where he worked from 2010-2018, most recently as Head of Australia. Prior to that, Mr. Gately was the CEO of Singapore developer South Beach Consortium, an affiliate of City Development and before that was head of asset management for AIG Global Real Estate’s US$10 billion regional portfolio, based in Hong Kong.
Mr. Gately holds a Bachelor of Business (Land Economy) from the University of Western Sydney and is a Certified Property Manager with the Property Council of Australia.
Mr. Gopalakrishnan joined BPEA in 2007. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Gopalakrishnan worked in the private equity practice at New Vernon, an India-dedicated multi-strategy investment management firm. Previously, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers India, where he advised clients on infrastructure projects.
Mr. Gopalakrishnan has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kerala and received a PGDM from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India. He is fluent in English and Hindi.
Mr. Hariharan joined BPEA in 2011. Mr. Hariharan is responsible for all legal matters associated with the Firm’s fund raising and investment efforts including the structuring and execution of transactions, financing and related activities. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Hariharan was at leading law firm Paul, Hastings, Janofsky and Walker, worked with Och-Ziff Capital Management at their Hong Kong and Bangalore offices and was a Partner of Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co., India’s leading law firm.
Mr. Hariharan received his LL.M. (Commercial Law) from Singapore Management University and a B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) degree from the National Law School of India University. Mr. Hariharan is fluent in English, Hindi and Tamil.
Ms. Ho joined BPEA in 2012. Ms. Ho is responsible for corporate development including product development, co-investment syndications, marketing and communications. Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Ho was a partner at Headland Capital Partners (formerly known as HSBC Private Equity Asia) where she worked for 16 years in a variety of positions including Partner – Head of Deal Execution Team, Investment Director, and Portfolio Management and Investor Relations Team.
Ms. Ho holds a Bachelor degree in Economics and Accounting from University of Bristol and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Ms. Ho is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Ms. Jain has 22 years of experience across financial markets in Europe & Asia across deal origination, structuring, underwriting, portfolio & risk and fund raising. Prior to joining BPEA Ms. Jain spent 8 years focused on the mid-market corporate sector in India, most recently heading & managing Indian Private Debt Fund at Religare Credit Advisor Private Limited (RCAL), and prior to that as Chief Risk Officer & Board member for Religare Finvest Limited, a mid-market focused NBFC, responsible for managing risk across all businesses. Before joining Religare, Ms. Jain worked for 10 years in London as Managing Director at HSBC, and prior to that as Director at Barclays Capital in the Structured Credit business. Before her time in London she worked in debt capital markets covering Asia, based out of Hong Kong with Peregrine Fixed Income Limited across debt syndication, loan trading & risk function.
Ms. Jain has lived and worked in India, Hong Kong & the UK and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from VNIT and MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
Ms. Jiao joined BPEA in 2005. She is mainly responsible for overseeing China-related investment activities in a number of sectors including education, healthcare, environmental protection and chemicals. Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Jiao was an Associate at Borden Capital, an affiliate of KKR. Before that, Ms. Jiao was an Analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston in New York.
Ms. Jiao has undergraduate degrees in Economics and Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She is a native Mandarin speaker and is fluent in English.
Mr. Kim joined BPEA in 2009. Prior to joining BPEA, Mr. Kim had worked at the proprietary trading team and the principal and structured finance team at Lehman Brothers. He also worked at the global asset finance group at Credit Suisse and asset securitization group / debt capital markets at Credit Lyonnais.
Mr. Kim holds a B.A. degree in Economics and Political Science from Brown University.
Mr. Lai joined BPEA in 2013 and is responsible for various technical and risk management matters relating to the Firm’s real estate investments. Mr. Lai previously worked at Invesco Real Estate from 2011 to 2013 where he was the Head of Development & Construction overseeing projects in the Invesco Asia Funds. Prior to AIG’s Asian real estate business unit being divested to Invesco Real Estate, Mr. Lai worked at AIG Global Real Estate from 1997 to 2010 where he set up the Development & Construction Department and managed a regional team.
Mr. Lai received his Masters of Project Management from the University of South Australia and his Bachelor of Architecture and his Bachelor of Applied Science from Curtin University, Western Australia. He is a Chartered Architect and is registered with the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). Mr. Lai is fluent in English & Cantonese.
Mr. Lam joined BPEA in 2011. Mr. Lam was previously the Managing Director, Greater China for Pramerica Real Estate Investors, a subsidiary of Prudential U.S. and one of the largest real estate investors in the world. Before that, Mr. Lam was Head of Real Estate Investment for China Ping An Trust and Investment Co., Limited, the investment arm of the Ping An Insurance. Prior to his employment with Ping An, Mr. Lam was an Associate Director of AIG Global Real Estate Investment (Asia).
Mr. Lam received a Doctor of Business Administration degree (DBA) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, an M.B.A. in Finance from Cleveland State University, Ohio. He is a CFA charter holder and a professional member of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS). He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Mr. Lee joined BPEA in 2007. Mr. Lee leads buyout investments as part of the Greater China Investment Team. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Lee was an Associate with private equity firm Tullis-Dickerson based in Greenwich, Connecticut. He began his career in the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs.
Mr. Lee graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Economics and East Asian Studies from Columbia University and an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Taiwanese.
Mr. Macksey joined BPEA in 2006. Mr. Macksey has extensive experience in the education, retail and business services sectors. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Macksey was a Senior Associate at Westpac Institutional Bank. He also worked as a Senior Associate at Deloitte.
Mr. Macksey graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Queensland and is also a CFA charterholder.
Mr. Mahtani joined BPEA in 2006. Mr. Mahtani is primarily responsible for BPEA’s investments in India. At BPEA, he has led investments across IT Services, education, financial services, consumer goods and infrastructure sectors. Mr. Mahtani was previously a Vice President with General Atlantic Partners (“GAP”) in Mumbai, whose India office he founded. During his tenure at GAP, he was responsible for India investments. Previously, he worked for Bear Stearns & Co., Inc. in New York and Merrill Lynch in Washington DC.
Mr. Mahtani graduated with honors from Georgetown University, where he received a B.Sc. in Business Administration with a triple major in Finance, International Business and Marketing. Mr. Mahtani was born in Singapore and is fluent in English, Bahasa Indonesia and Hindi.
Mr. Manga joined BPEA in 2011. Mr. Manga previously spent two years as a National Director at LaSalle Investment Management where he was Portfolio Manager Japan for the LaSalle Asia Opportunity Funds. Prior to LaSalle Investment Management, Mr. Manga worked for Deutsche Bank RREEF and Morgan Stanley Properties. Mr. Manga began his career at the Bank of Canada where he completed economic research on Government of Canada debt issuance and its bond buyback program.
Mr. Manga obtained a Bachelor of Applied Sciences degree in electrical engineering from the University of Ottawa and an M.B.A. with a specialization in finance from the University of British Columbia. He speaks English, French and Japanese.
Mr. Maruoka joined BPEA in 2006. Mr. Maruoka’s previous work experience includes thirteen years at Nomura Securities in Tokyo, where he focused on a broad range of financial advisory assignments. Mr. Maruoka was also seconded to work in the New York offices of Nomura’s joint venture partner Wasserstein Perella where he worked with Messrs. Albolote and Predeek. After Nomura, Mr. Maruoka worked for Morgan Stanley Japan in the investment banking group. In addition to his investment banking and M&A experience, Mr. Maruoka has significant operating experience.
Mr. Maruoka graduated from Sophia University in Tokyo. He is a native Japanese speaker and is fluent in English.
Mr. Predeek joined BPEA in 2006 from Ripplewood Japan (“RHJI”). Mr. Predeek has extensive experience in both investment banking and private equity in Japan. During his tenure at Ripplewood, Mr. Predeek was responsible for the origination and execution of transactions in Japan, and assisted in the public listing of Ripplewood’s Japan portfolio, which generated US$500 million for future investments. Prior to joining Ripplewood, Mr. Predeek worked with Wasserstein Perella & Co. in Japan (which was renamed Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein post acquisition by Dresdner Bank), where he was responsible for M&A and restructuring activities. Mr. Predeek has over 20 years of experience in Japan, and is fluent in Japanese.
Mr. Predeek received a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University and holds an M.A. from Waseda University.
Mr. Sursock currently leads a team that supports investments across the BPEA portfolio of companies, pre and post investment. Prior to joining BPEA, Mr. Sursock was CEO of KKR Capstone for Asia Pacific, where he drove value creation in businesses spanning mining, financial services, industrials, logistics, dairy, FMCG and a wide range of other sectors across the region. He has had deep operational experience in his roles as Managing Director, Vice President Operations Asia Pacific and Vice President Global Sales Operations Retail for Motorola. Mr. Sursock came to Asia with Mars, where he spent 20 years with roles in Marketing, Sales, Human Resources, Manufacturing and General management across Europe. His most recent role at Mars was as President and General Manager of Greater China, leading a team devising and implementing broad-based strategies which resulted in growing market share to 60 percent of the China market.
Mr. Sursock is a member of ATTA (Asia Turnaround and Transformation Association), and holds a B.Sc. Honors in Mechanical and Production Engineering and an M.B.A. in Marketing. Additionally Mr. Sursock is an Advisor and Speaker at the Tuck School of Leadership Dartmouth and a member of its Asia Advisory Board. He is also a member of the Marshall Goldsmith 100.
Mr. Agarwal joined BPEA in September 2016. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Agarwal was SVP at Religare Credit Advisors from 2013 to 2016, and previously was an AVP with Barclays Bank, based in Mumbai and London.
Mr. Agarwal holds an Master in Financial Economics from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor in Technology from University of Delhi. He is fluent in English and Hindi.
Mr. Ganeriwal joined BPEA in 2017. Immediately prior to joining BPEA, Mr. Ganeriwal spent three years at Altico Capital India as one of the founding members to build their structured finance lending practise. Mr. Ganeriwal has previously at ICICI Bank been involved in building their structure finance business using both onshore and offshore books of the bank, apart from stints at bank’s proprietary trading and distress assets businesses. Mr. Ganeriwal has also spent four years at Clearwater Capital Partners’ Mumbai office where he has been involved in building their special situations portfolio in India.
Mr. Ganeriwal holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and a B.Com. from Calcutta University. He is fluent in Hindi and English.
Mr. Goenka has over 15 years of experience across proprietary investments, structured finance, investment banking and consulting. Immediately prior to joining BPEA, Mr. Goenka spent two years as Head of Underwriting at Religare Credit Advisors Limited, domestic fund investing in Structured Private Debt in India. Prior to this, Mr. Goenka was with Religare Finvest Limited where he oversaw the structuring and underwriting functions for various mid-market corporates across a variety of sectors. Amongst his previous roles, he worked with Deutsche Bank for 5 years in proprietary real estate investments, and within the global credit trading team focusing on transactions for mid and large corporates. He has also worked with JP Morgan in their Investment Banking team in Mumbai for 3 years where he worked on several capital market transactions across sectors.
Mr. Goenka is a Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, India.
Mr. Gorla joined BPEA in 2011. Mr. Gorla started his career in China 20 years ago, providing consulting and marketing strategy services to clients in the FMCG, automotive, pharmaceutical, media and other sectors. He spent over 10 years with Mars Greater China, holding a wide range of marketing and sales roles where he established distribution systems reaching nearly 1 million points of sale, and substantially improved brand-building and promotions effectiveness at the point of sale, before assuming broader SBU and General Management roles.
Nino holds a B.A. in Sociology from Georgetown University and an M.A. in Chinese Studies from Suzhou University.
Mr. Leong joined BPEA in 2007. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Leong worked as an Investment Associate at Titan Capital. Before that, he was an Analyst at Deloitte.
Mr. Leong has an undergraduate degree from University of Melbourne and is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Bahasa Malaysia.
Ms. Leow joined BPEA in 2011. Ms. Leow has led and participated in key deals in Southeast Asia, and is actively involved in investments within Education, Business and Outsourced Services, Industrials, and Consumer & Retail industries globally. Prior to joining BPEA, Ms. Leow was a Senior Associate Consultant with Bain & Company, where she executed multiple due diligences for private equity funds and drove strategy development and turnaround projects for leading corporations in Asia and in North America.
Ms. Leow holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MSc in Management Science from the London School of Economics, and graduated with First Class Honors in Economics & Management from Oxford University.
Mr. Leung joined BPEA in 2017. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Leung was the Director of Construction Project Management at AIA Group Real Estate Investment since 2010, and previously was a VP with AIG Global Real Estate, based in Hong Kong. Before that, he worked as a Project Manager in Cheung Kong Holdings Ltd responsible for real estate development projects in Hong Kong.
Mr. Leung holds a Master of Project Management from the University of South Australia and various design and construction degrees from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Hong Kong. He is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
Mr. Lee joined BPEA in 2015 and leads our Debt Capital Markets efforts. Mr. Lee focuses on managing the firm’s overall relationship with lenders globally (investment / commercial banks and credit funds / direct lenders) to raise debt for new leverage buyout transactions, and manages leverage risk across the portfolio. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Lee was the co-head of China Debt Capital Markets and was actively involved in sponsor leveraged finance transaction at Goldman Sachs Hong Kong. Before that, he worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Hong Kong and Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong and New York in the leveraged finance practice.
Mr. Lee holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, with a minor in Mathematics and Information Systems. He is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Bahasa.
Mr. Li joined BPEA in 2009. Mr. Li focuses on co-sourcing, executing and managing investments in Automotive, Industrials & Information Services sectors. In addition, he works closely with the Firm’s Operations Team on post-investment value creation initiatives at select portfolio companies. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Senior Consultant with Booz & Co. based in China and the U.S., advising corporate, financial sponsor and government clients in a variety of sectors, geographies and situations.
Mr. Li holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago with a concentration in Finance. He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Mr. Ng joined BPEA in 2000. Since joining, Mr. Ng has overseen regional IT resources and infrastructure development to facilitate the Firm’s strategic planning and growth. Mr. Ng also provides project management support and IT consultation to the Firm’s portfolio companies. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Ng spent five years as an IT consultant.
Mr. Ng holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Accounting and Finance from Hong Kong Baptist University and a Master’s Degree in Information System Management from the School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Mr. Raghavan joined BPEA in June 2014. Before joining BPEA, Mr. Raghavan spent more than three years at Alvarez & Marsal India where he assisted private equity firms with due diligence and operational performance improvement at their portfolio companies. Prior to that, Mr. Raghavan worked with McKinsey & Company and with Deloitte Consulting, both in the US, assisting clients in North America, Europe and Asia in strategy and performance improvement.
Mr. Raghavan holds an M.B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University. Mr. Raghavan is fluent in Tamil and Hindi.
Mr. Scattarella joined BPEA in 2009. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Scattarella was an Associate with Golden Gate Capital, a leading middle-market private equity firm based in San Francisco. Previously, he worked with Bain & Company in Los Angeles.
Mr. Scattarella holds an M.B.A. and Bachelor of Science in Economics (magna cum laude), both from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Ms. Gu joined BPEA in 2011. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Gu was a Summer Intern at BPEA in 2010, and previously was an Associate with S.A.C. Private Capital Group, based in New York. Before that, she worked as an Investment Banking Analyst at the Mergers & Acquisitions Group of Merrill Lynch in New York and Hong Kong.
Ms. Gu holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from Colgate University. She is fluent in English and Mandarin.
Ms. Yeon joined BPEA in 2010. Ms. Yeon has led and participated in key deals in Korea. Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Yeon was an analyst at Morgan Stanley’s investment banking division, based in Hong Kong, where she was involved in multiple projects covering financial institutions in Asia.
Ms. Yeon received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in Finance and minor in International Relations. Ms. Yeon speaks Korean, English, and Chinese.
Mr. Tse joined BPEA in 2013. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Tse was the Investment Director at Goodman Asia where he was responsible for managing investment and capital transactions of logistics and industrial real estate in Hong Kong and mainland China. Before that, Mr. Tse was the Vice President with Pramerica Real Estate Investors and a Senior Associate with Capmark Financial Group. Mr. Tse also worked at Jones Lang LaSalle.
Mr. Tse holds a Bachelor Degree in Real Estate from The Hong Kong Polytechnics University and a Master Degree in Financial Analysis from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is a member of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors as well as a Registered Professional Surveyor.
Ms. You joined BPEA in 2012. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. You was a Summer Intern at BPEA in 2011, and previously was an Associate with JP Morgan Investment Banking, having worked in their New York and Hong Kong offices.
Ms. You holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Mount Holyoke College. She is fluent in English and Mandarin.
Mr. Hara joined BPEA in 2019 from Morgan Stanley where he was an Executive Director in the M&A Advisory Group in Tokyo. Mr. Hara brings wealth of experience in both investment banking and private equity in Japan which includes his tenure at Advent International and Ripplewood Japan. Mr. Hara began his career at the Industrial Bank of Japan (currently Mizuho Bank). In addition to his professional background, Mr. Hara has unique experience in public services having served as a Special Adviser for a Japanese municipal government in the area of culture and international relations.
Mr. Hara received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Keio University. He is a native Japanese speaker and is fluent in English.
Mr. Kitami joined BPEA in 2012. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Kitami worked at McKinsey & Company, where he was engaged in various consulting projects which supported growth strategy, organizational transformation, sales and marketing strategy, and operational improvement for a wide range of client companies.
Mr. Kitami graduated from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law. Mr. Kitami holds an M.B.A. from University of Michigan, Ross School of Business.
Mr. Hew joined BPEA in 2015. Mr. Hew leads the operations oversight for BPEA’s Cross Border team where he works closely with the portfolio company’s executive management teams in driving the implementation of the Baring Management System. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Hew was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company where he spent 5 years serving public, private and social sector clients throughout Asia. Prior to McKinsey, his experience has been in the US automotive and manufacturing industries where he held line roles in procurement, supply chain and logistics.
Mr. Hew is a Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) and Six-Sigma black belt trained. Mr. Hew holds a bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management from Western Michigan University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He also holds an MBA degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School with a double major in Finance and Strategy.
Mr. Valtonen joined BPEA in 2017. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Valtonen was head of overseas compliance at ORIX, and previously was chief compliance officer with PAG, based in Hong Kong since 2010. Before that, he worked as director of compliance and risk at VinaCapital in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam and held internal audit roles in Japan, Korea and the UK.
Mr. Valtonen holds a MSc Finance/Financial Law from London University SOAS, a MBA from the University of British Columbia and a B.A. from York University in Toronto. He is fluent in English, Finnish, Swedish, and Japanese.
Adeline Wong, Human Capital Director, joined Baring Private Equity in 2016. She was previously a member of the Leadership Advisory team at Spencer Stuart, where she advised various types of organizations on their critical leadership issues such as leadership selection, capability development and succession planning. Prior to Spencer Stuart, she was the Head of Operations and People Development of Booz & Company, Greater China, where she focused on a wide range of talent related agenda – talent acquisition, performance management, people and organizational development. She started her career in Asia with Cheng Xin Venture Capital Corp. in Taiwan, and specialized in life science related investments.
Adeline earned a B.S. with Honors in Biochemistry and Psychology from University of Iowa and M.S. in Biotechnology from Northwestern University. She also received a Certificate in Business Administration and Management from Harvard Extension School. She is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
